BBQ Macaroni Salad - DELICIOUS! |
After working a half day we loaded up the car and all our snacks and left for our adventure. After a nice drive with my random DJing skills, we arrived at the very dry but still nice Coloardo Bend State Park.
Before I start going into way too much detail I'll get to the good part. We started to set up camp and realized that the air mattress was too big to fit in the tent, so Danny convinced me to sleep under the stars (not such a good idea).
First of all, there were a ton of mosquitos (we each have like 50 bites on our arms alone -I think I have like 15 on my face, I look like a teenage kid with a case of acne).
Second of all, there were these crazy wind gusts every couple of minutes, so it was hot and then a strong gust of wind that was kind of cold, so I was sweaty but cold all night.
Third, there are animals everywhere freaking me out with their noises (esp raccoons.)
Look closely and in the light there is the first of the raccoons to visit us. |
Fourth, it was clear when we went to sleep but then in the middle of the night it was super cloudy and I was freaking out about it raining on us, which it did eventually sprinkle and I woke Danny up for like the millionth time and he pretty much acted like I was overreacting (I just didn't want to get caught in a rain storm).
When we were first going to sleep a raccoon came super close to our campground and Danny chased after it and scared it off, I then asked him if the food would be ok in the tent to which he replied that he thought so.
Well in the middle of the night I heard some scratching because I was closest to the tent but my glasses were inside the tent and Danny had the flashlight, so I did what any respectable girl would and jumped on top of Danny screaming "what's that?" He got the light out and shined on the tent and there was a raccoon scratching at the tent. He thought it was a close call but we had thwarted the raccoon.
Well I kept hearing sniffing and scratching and would jump on Danny because I didn't want to reach into the tent for my glasses and get bit by a raccoon lurking around right there. Finally Danny just gives me the flashlight and I shine it on the other side of the tent where I saw the outline of a raccoon. I then shook the tent a lot and put my glasses on.
Then I noticed that a towel was outside of the tent which previously had not been and as I inspected closer, the raccoons had torn a hole in the tent.
Shaking my fists at those darn raccoons. |
When I checked inside though it didn't look like anything was missing and the food had been on the opposite side of the tent. We then hung our food on the hooks that were located at each campsite (a hint we probably should have heeded more to before we went to sleep).
The next day we packed up and went for a swim in the river, and then were going to take a short hike down to some falls (which are nothing more than a trickle when there is a drought).
The "lush but not so much falls" falls. |
On the drive to the hike, Danny asked for some of these delicious s'mores cookies I made and when I went to look for them they weren't there. All of our other food was still in the grocery bags. but one of the bags did have slit in it. The RACCOONS took our delicious cookies but nothing else. I hope a raccoon is sick somewhere on those cookies.
All in all it was a fun trip and I wouldn't mind going camping again. Needless to say I will not be sleeping outside or with food in our tent anytime soon.
Hillarious!!!!
